I FUCKING HATE JAIKU NOWADAYS. the fact that comments done by individuals who have private profiles and are not on your contact list ARE NOT SHOWN is PURE SHIT. I could rant about this more, include a bit more profanity, but I'll just say "meh" and refresh my Qaiku overview.
and yes, the pressure is on the Jaiku Dev team to at least match the Qaiku team. At least both have mentioned that they are following OMB, so soon this will all be academic as we can use whichever service suits us better.
well, wouldn't it be easy to implement an AJAX+JQuery feature that goes to the feeds using the visitor's bandwidth and feeds that to JaikuEngine? I know that would be proan to misuse and abuse though as it'd be too easy to dismantle... damn ok, forget I said anything
Plus it would only solve the local side of resource consumption. The remote end would still get as much traffic as it always did because of the constant polling from thousands of users just that it would be a little more hidden because of being distributed among the users.

Qaiku.com has feeds though, but it's a blank slate as far as accounts go.

@ralphm points out in this thread that the feed fetching was putting too much load on the servers.
I alos remember @jyri saying that if someone can figure out a better way to do the feed fetching then it could be implemented.
